iha sattvamarthakriyākāritvaṃ taditarasattvalakṣaṇāyogāt| tacca kramayaugapadyābhyāṃ vyāptaṃ parasparavyavacchedalakṣaṇatvādanayoḥ| prakārāntareṇa karaṇāsambhavāt| kramayaugapadye cākṣaṇikatve na staḥ| pūrvvāparakālayoaravicalitaikasvabhāvasya karttṛtvākarttṛtve virudvadharmmadvayāyogāt|



tatra na tāvat kramaḥ kramāṇāmekaikaṃ prati pūrvāparakālayoḥ karttṛtvākarttṛtvāpatteḥ| evaṃ sarvvakramābhāvāt kevalaṃ sakalakāryyayaugapadyamavaśiṣyate| tatra ca sphuṭa taraḥ pūrvvāparakālayoḥ karttṛtvākartṛtvaprasaṅgaḥ| virudve ca karttṛtvākarttṛtve ekadharmmiṇi na sambhavataḥ| ekasvabhāvaśca tāvatkālamakṣaṇika iti sidva etasmin kramayaugapadyayorayogaḥ| tadevamakṣaṇike vyāpakānupalabdhyā niṣidvaṃ sattvaṃ kṣaṇika evā[va] tiṣṭhate iti kṣaṇikatvena vyāptaṃ | tattena vyāptaṃ yat yatra dharmmiṇi sidhyati tatra kṣaṇikatvaṃ prasādhayati| idamevedānīṃ vicāryyate| keyaṃ (kveyaṃ) vyāptigrahītavyā dṛṣṭāntadharmmiṇi sādhyadharmmiṇi vā| kecidāhuḥ| dṛṣṭāntadharmmiṇyeva dhūmavat| anyathā sādhanavaiphalyaṃ syāt| ubhayadharmmasidvi(dve)ranāntarīyakatvāt vyāptisidveḥ| nahi mahānasasidvāyāmagnidhūmayorvyāptau punaragnisidvaye dhūmaliṅgamanviṣyata iti| tathāhi|



dṛṣṭānte gṛhyate vyāptirdharmmayostatra dṛṣṭayoḥ|

hetumātrasya dṛṣṭasya vyāptiḥ pakṣe tu gamyate||

sā ca sarvvopasaṃhārāt sāmānyamavalambate|

tasya dharmmiṇi vṛttistu pratīyetānumānataḥ||



pratyakṣadṛṣṭayorvanhidhūmayoḥ kāryyakāraṇabhāvasidvau tayorvyāptisidviriti pratyakṣasidve vanhau yuktamanumānavaiphalyam| naivaṃ vyāptisidveḥ prāk pramāṇāntarasidvaṃ dharmmiṇi kṣaṇikatvam| sādhanadharmmameva tu kevalamanupaśyanto viparyyaye bādhakapramāṇavalāttasya kṣaṇikatvena vyāptiṃ pratīmaḥ| tattataḥ sādhanavaiphalyam| vaiphalyameva, kṣaṇikatvavyāptasya sattvasya tathātvena dharmmiṇi pratītau kṣaṇikatvasyāpi pratīteriti cet| na | sarvvopasaṃhāravatī hi vyāptiḥ sādhyasidveraṅgam| tadiyamanapekṣitadharmmiviśeṣaṃ sādhanadharmmamātramavalambate| tadyathā| yatra dhūmastatrāgniriti| na punaryatra mahānase dhūmastatrāgniriti| evamihāpi yat sattatkṣaṇikamiti vyāptipratītau sādhanadharmmasyāpi dharmmiṇi sattvaṃ nāntarbhavati| kiṃ punaḥ sādhyadharmmasya| tasmāt sattvasāmānyasya sādhanadharmmasya pakṣadharmmatvaṃ vyāptiścaikaśaḥ pratipādya tadubhayasāmarthyāt sādhyadharmmasya dharmmiṇi vṛttiḥ pratīyata iti kuto'numānavaiphalyaṃ| yadyevaṃ vyāptipratītāvasati dharmmiṇi parāmarśe sādhyadharmmiṇi vyāptigrahaṇamiti| kutaḥ| tatra dṛṣṭasya sattvasya vyāptipratīteḥ| yathā mahānasadṛṣṭāgnidhūmayorvyāptigrahe dṛṣṭāntadharmmiṇi vyāptigrahaṇamucyate| na hi vyāptigrahaṇe mahānasaparāmarśo'stītyuktaṃ| nanu vyāptipakṣadharmmatvayorekaśaḥ pratītāvapi yasyaiva pakṣadharmmatvamavagatantasyaiva sādhyena vyāptiravasiteti sāmarthyāt sādhyasattākathanamavaiyarthyaṃ sādhanasya|



nanu na pakṣadharmmatvagatiḥ sādhyagatiḥ sādhyadharmmasaṃsparśāt| nāpi vyāptipratītireva sādhyasidviḥ| sāmānyālambanatayā dharmmiviśeṣeṇa dharmmayoranavacchedāt| anyathā viśeṣayorvyāptiprasaṅgāt tadayaṃ vyastaviṣayaḥ sāmarthyāditi hetunirddeśaḥ| atha hetostrairūpyaparicchedasāmarthyāt sādhyapratītirutpadyata ityucyate| na tarhīdānīṃ vyarthohetuḥ| svarūpaniścayena sādhyaniścayopajananāt| na hi kvacidiyattādhikaṃ liṅgasya karttavyamastīti|



api ca gṛhīte pakṣadharmmatve sambandhe ca smṛte anumānaṃ bhavadbhiriṣyate| tadvadantarvyāptāvapīṣyatāṃ| na hi bahirvyāptivādināmapi vismṛtāyāṃ vyāptau anumānapravṛttirasti| tatra yasyaiva pakṣadharmmatvamavagataṃ tasyaiva sādhyadharmmeṇa vyāptismṛteḥ kinna sarvvānumānavaiyarthyaṃ| sādhyadharmmiṇo'parāmarśeṇa vyāpteḥ smaraṇāditi cet| sādhyadharmmiṇi dṛṣṭasyaiva vyāptismaraṇe kathaṃ sādhyadharmmiṇo'parāmarśaḥ| sāmānyālambanatvādvyāpteḥ| sādhyadharmmino'navacchedāditi cet| nanu tatra dṛṣṭasya kathaṃ tenānavacchedaḥ| tenāvacchinnasya vā asādhāraṇatvāt kathaṃ vyāptiḥ| ayogavyavacchedena viśeṣaṇānnāsādhāraṇateti cet tathāpi kinna sādhyadharmmī parāmṛśyate| yatra yatra parvvate dhūmastatra tatrāgniryathā mahānasa iti sāmānyālambanāyāṃ vyāptau dharmmiviśeṣaparāmarśasyānaṅgatvāditi cet yuktametat sādhyadharmmiṇā hyayogavyavacchedaḥ sādhanadharmmasya rūpāntarameva pakṣadhammatvākhyaṃ| na tvayaṃ vyāpteraṅgaṃ | tamantareṇāpi vyāpteḥ sāmānyālambanāyāḥ paricchedaparisamāpteḥ kathamanyathā dṛṣṭāntadharmmiṇi vyāptigrahaṇavārttāpi tadedānīṃ pakṣadharmmatvāyogāt pakṣadharmmatvāgrahaṇāt; pakṣadharmmatvagrahaṇe vā tadaiva sādhyamapi sāmarthyādasidvaṃ sidvamiti sarvvānumānavaiyarthyaprasaṅgaḥ| paścātkālabhāviliṅgajñānamapi ca smṛtireva syāt na pramāṇaṃ| tasmāt vyāpteranaṅgatvāt pakṣadharmmatvaṃ vyāptigrahaṇe sadapi nāntarbhavatīti pṛthaggṛhītasmṛtayoḥ pakṣadharmmatvavyāptyoḥ sāmarthyādanumeyagatirutpadyate iti| evamavaiyarthyaṃ sādhanānāmeṣitavyam iti mānaphalatvāt| tadvat pṛthagmūtayoḥ pakṣadharmmatvavyāptyoḥ sāmarthyādanumānotpattirantarvyāptāvapi kinneṣyate| tadiṣṭau vā kathaṃ sādhanavaiyarthyaṃ| trairūpyagatisāmarthyādanumeyagatiriti hi tadupādānaśaktireva sāmarthyamucyate, na tu trairupyapratīterantarbhāva iti sarvvaṃ samānaṃ| na sarvvaṃ samānaṃ| antarvyāptau hi vyāptiṃ prati gatyaiva pakṣadharmmatvamavagataṃ anavagate pakṣadharmmatve vyāpterapyanavagateḥ| tato vyāptipūrvvake sādhanavāhye pakṣadharmmavacanamanarthakamanantavyāptau| naivaṃ bahirvyāptau bahireva vyāptigrahaṇāt| atrāha,-



"yena tena krameṇātra prayukte sādhane sati|

avetyaṃ pakṣadharmmatvaṃ paścādvyāptiḥ pratīyate||

pratyakṣa iva dṛṣṭānte tatra setyanyathā kathaṃ|

dvau dṛṣṭvā vidma iti ced vyāpteḥ prāk dvayadṛk kathaṃ||"



vyāptipakṣadharmmatve hi svavākyābhyāṃ yena tena prayuktābhyāṃ sūcyete na tu sākṣāt pratīyete| vācaḥ svayamapramāṇatvāt| yadāha,-



śaktasya sūcakaṃ heturvaco'śaktamapi svayamiti| sūcitayo'stu tayoḥ sattve hetau prathamatarapakṣadharmmatvaviṣayameva pramāṇamabhimukhībhavatu| tena pramāṇena dharmmiṇi sidvasya sattvasya paścādvyāptiḥ pramāṇāntareṇa gṛhyata iti kasya vaiyarthyamiti| pratyakṣe'pi dṛṣṭāntadharmmiṇi prathamaṃ heturgṛhyate paścādvyāptirityeṣa eva kramaḥ anyathā dṛṣṭāntadharmmiṇi vyāptirgṛhītetyetadeva na syāt| dṛṣṭāntadharmmiṇyadṛṣṭasyaiva hetorvyāptigrahaṇāt| yadyevaṃ sādhyadharmmo'pi vyāptigrahaṇādhikaraṇe dharmmiṇi grahītabya eva yathā vanhidhūmayoriti cet| na| tatra dṛṣṭasya hetorvipakṣe bādhakavṛttimātrādeva vyāptisidveḥ| jñātaścaivaṃ na khalu vyāptigrahaṇāt prāk kṣaṇikasya kvacidapi sidvirasti tasyānumeyatvāt | asidvāyāñca vyāptāvanumānāpravṛtteḥ| sādhanāntarasya ca tadarthamananusaraṇāt| anusaraṇe'pyanavasthā syāt| avasthāne tāvat prayāsasya vaiyarthyāt| viaparyyaye vyāptibalādeva vyāptisidveravighātāt| vanhidhūmayostu nādṛṣṭayoḥ kāryyakāraṇabhāvasidveḥ| tatsidvau na vipakṣe bādhakavṛttiriti dvayadarśanavyapekṣā ? vanhidhūmayorvyāptisidviḥ sattvakṣaṇikatvayostu naivaṃ| yathoktanyāyena vyāptisidveḥ| tasmāt sattvamātrasya tatra dharmmiṇi sidvasya bādhakavaśādvyāptiḥ setsyatītyeṣitavyaṃ| tadvadantarvyāptāvapi| te ime vyāptipakṣadharmmatve svasvapramāṇavyavacchedyasādhanavākye na tu kevalaṃ sūcayitavye| na cānyataravākyena śakyamubhayaṃ sūcayitumiti kuto'nyataravākyavaiyarthyaṃ||



ekasyaiva hi dharmmasya kramātrairūpyaniścayaḥ|

vismṛtāvanumābhāvāt tat kiṃ vyarthānumākhileti||



api ca saṃgrahaślokaḥ,-

bādhakāt sādhyasidviścedvyartho hetvantaragrahaḥ|

bādhakāttadasidviścedvyartho dharmmyantaragrahaḥ||



yadi hi dharmmiṇi vyāptiḥ sidhyantyeva sādhyasidvimantarbhāvayati| nanu lābha evaiṣaḥ| byāptiprasādhakādeva pramāṇāt sādhyasidveḥ sattvahetvapāśrayaṇaprayāsasya nirasanāt| na hi vyasanamevaitalliṅgāntarānusaraṇaṃ nāma| atha na vyāptisādhakāt sādhyasidviḥ| na tarhyantarvyāptau hetuvaiyarthyamiti kimakāṇḍakātaratayā bahu taramāyāsamāviśasi| dvayaṃ hi bhavataḥ sādhyaṃ dṛṣṭāntadharmmiṇi vṛttiḥ sādhyadharmmiṇi ca| yathākramaṃ byāptipakṣadharmmatvayoḥ sidvyarthaṃ| nanu yadā pratiniyate dharmmiṇi vivādaḥ, tadvahirbhūte ca dharmmiṇi vyāptigrahaṇaṃ tadānīṃ bhavedvaiyarthyaṃ| yadā tu vastumātre vivādaḥ tadā sarvvavastuṣu hetorvṛttistvayāpi sādhyā mayāpi ceti katamasmin dharmmiṇi hetorvṛttisādhanaṃ mama vyarthaṃ bhaviṣyati| kathamidānīṃ bahirvyāptirvivādādhikaraṇaṃ bhūta evānyatamasmin vyāptisādhanāt| tāvanmātralakṣaṇatvācca sādhyadharmmiṇaḥ| bādhakaṃ pramāṇaṃ pravarttamānamantargatamapi dharmmiṇaṃ bahiṣkarotīti cet etadeva kathaṃ bhavatu bādhakena pravarttamānenaiva tasmin sādhyasādhanāt| sādhyasaṃśayopagame sādhyadharmmiṇi lakṣaṇopagamāditi cet ayuktametat| bādhakamātrāt na sādhyasidvirityasminpakṣe dharmmyantaraparigrahavaiyarthyābhidhānāt| bādhakāt sādhyasidvirityasmiṃstu pakṣe sādhanavaiyarthyamāpāditaṃ| tasmādvādhakamātreṇa sādhyāsidvau na kvacit sandehanivṛttiḥ| sandehānivṛttau na vahiṣkaraṇamavahiṣkṛtaśca sādhyadharmmyeveti tatra vyāptirantarvyāptireva nedānīṃ bahirvyāptervārttāpi| tadiyaṃbahirvyāptiramusmin pakṣe kathaṃ bhavati yadi pratiniyate dharmmiṇi vivādaḥ| tadvahirbhūte ca dharmmiṇi vyāptigrahaṇambhavati| tatra ca durudvaraḥ dharmmyantaraparigrahavaiyarthyadoṣaḥ| bādhakamātreṇa tu sādhyasidvau hetyantarameva vyarthaṃ| api ca satvahetorviśeṣeṇa na vahirvyāptisambhavaḥ|



asidve dharmmiṇaḥ sattve vivādānavatārataḥ|

tatrāsidvasya ca vyāptigrahaṇe sādhyadharmmiṇi||

vyāptigrahaḥ kathaṃ nasyāddṛṣṭānte'pi na vā bhavet||



yatra hi dharmmiṇi dṛṣṭasya hetorvyāptiḥ pratīyate tatra tasya vyāptigrahaṇamākhyāyate| dṛṣṭañca sādhyadharmmiṇi sattvamanyathā vimatyayogāditi kathaṃ nāntarvyāptiḥ|



tathāpi sādhanavaiyarthyaniṣedhāya bahireva gṛhṇīma iti cet tat kimidānīṃ tvadicchānurodhāt dharmmiṇi hetorddarśanamadarśanamastu| darśanaviśeṣe vā bahireva vyāptigrahaṇavyavasthāstu| ubhayatra dṛṣṭasya vyāptigrahaṇe'pyasti bahirvyāptibhāga iti cet| nanu kimarthamiyān bhāgo yatnena saṃrakṣyate|



mābhūt hetuvaiyarthyamiti cet| nanu yadi bādhakavṛttimātreṇa vyāptigrahaṇādhikaraṇe dharmmiṇi sādhyasidveḥ sādhanavaiyarthyamantarvyāptau tadetadvahirvyāptāvapi tulyaṃ| tasmād vyasanamātraṃ bahirvyāptigrahaṇe viśeṣeṇa sattve hetau kevalaṃ jaḍadhiyāmeva niyamena dṛṣṭāntasāpekṣaḥ sādhanaprayogaḥ paritoṣāya jāyate| teṣāmevānugrahārthamācāryyo dṛṣṭāntamupādatte|



yat sattatkṣaṇikaṃ yathā ghaṭa iti| paṭumatayastu naivaṃ dṛṣṭāntamapekṣante|



"tasmāddṛṣṭāntaroktebhyo ghaṭaṃ dṛṣṭāntamabravīt|

tathā māneṣvavaiyarthyādantarvyāptāvapīṣyatām||



ityantaraślokaḥ||



kathamidānīṃ anumeye sattvameva sattvameva sapakṣa eva sattvamasapakṣe vāsattvameva niścitamiti hetostrairupyamavagantavyam|



"matau sapakṣāsapakṣau sādhyadharmmayutāyutau|

sattvāsattve tatra hetoste grāhye yatra tatra vā||"



sādhyadharmmayuktaḥ sarvvaḥ sāmānyena sapakṣaḥ, atadyuktaścāsapakṣa iti| tasmin sapakṣa eva sattvamasapakṣe cāsattvameva yathākramamanvayavyatirekau tau punaryatra tatra vā dharmmiṇi grahītavyau yatra śakyau grahītum|



tadiha sattvasya sarvvato'kṣaṇikādvyāvṛttau bādhakabalāt sidvāyāṃ yat sattat kṣaṇikameveti anvayaḥ sādhyadharmmiṇyavagṛhyate| tatra dṛṣṭasya hetorvyāptigrahaṇāt dharmmyantarāsambhavāt| sambhave'pi tadanusaraṇavaiyarthyāt| yadyevamasādhāraṇo nāma kathamanaikāntika uktaḥ||



asādhāraṇatāṃ hetudoṣammūḍhavyapekṣayā|

abravīdagrahādvyāpti(pte)rnaivaṃ sarvvopasaṃhṛtau||



uktametajjaḍadhiyo dharmmyantara eva vyāptigrahaṇaṃ pratipannāḥ| tadabhimānāpekṣayā'sādhāraṇamanaikāntikamāha śrāvaṇatvaṃ dṛṣṭāntābhāvāt| sādhyadharmmiṇi ca vyāptiraniṣṭeragṛhītāyāṃ vyāptau sandigdhobhayatayā'niścayakaratvāt| athavā asādhāraṇataiva śrāvaṇatvasya mūḍhābhimānopakalpitā| dṛṣṭaiva hi śabdavyaktidharmmiṇī vivādādhikaraṇāt| anyathā dharmmyasidviprasaṅgācca| dṛṣṭādṛṣṭaśabdavyaktisādhāraṇañca śrāvaṇatvaṃ hetuḥ| dhūmasāmānyavat| tataḥ sarvvopasaṃhāravatyāḥ vyāpteḥ sambhavāt sattvādivadadṛṣṭameva sādhanaṃ śrāvaṇatvākhyaṃ| kramayaugapadyānupalambha eva cātra bādhakaṃ pramāṇaṃ | śrotrajñānajana katvameva hi śrāvaṇatvaṃ| tasmānmūḍhavyapekśayā'sādhāraṇatvāt| asādhāraṇasya sarvvopasaṃhārāyogāt| sādhya dharmmiṇi vyāptipratītāveva sādhyapratīteḥ sādhanavaiphalyaṃ syādeva| tanmābhūvvaiphalyamiti naiva vyāptirgrahītavyā| tasyāmagṛhītāyāṃ sandigdhobhayatayā syādanaikāntikatvaṃ| sarvvopasaṃhāreṇa tu vyāptigrahaṇe yathoktanyāyena sādhanavaiphalyābhāvāt| aduṣṭaṃ sattvādi sādhanameveti veditavyam| tadevamubhayathā mūḍhajanāpekṣayā'sādhāraṇamanaikāntikamuktam|



samānañcaitadvahirvyāptivādināmapi yadi hi mūḍhamatāpekṣā na syāt syādeva śrāvaṇatvamaduṣṭo hetuḥ| satvādivanniyataśabdeṣu hi vivāde śabdāntaraṃ syāt|



dṛṣṭāntaḥ sarvvaśabdeṣu vigatau bādhakaṃ pramāṇaṃ pravarttammanaṃ adṛṣṭāntamapi tatraikaṃ dṛṣṭāntayatīti kathama sādhāraṇamanaikāntikaṃ veti|0|
